Ten individuals sentenced of digital abuse against Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has convicted ten people for perpetrating the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.

The accused individuals faced accusations of spreading fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the husband and wife's 24-year age gap.

The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of as much as eight months to the defendants. The full ruling has yet to be released.

A circulating false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has existed since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.

This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the French president's wife's identity.

Their lawsuit contends that Owens ignored substantial counter-evidence disproving her claim in favour of amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.

Owens has frequently reiterated these assertions on her digital program and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.

Brigitte Macron first met her current spouse when she taught at his high school.

The couple married in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was 54.
